The County has two YouTube sites. One is solely populated with video produced by ArlingtonTV and the other is populated with video from other County departments.
How to Post to YouTube
County departments can use the ArlingtonCoVa YouTube site to host their videos not produced by ATV (e.g., training or recruitment videos). Contact email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org for the YouTube username/password so you can upload the video. Once the video is uploaded, you can send the link out in an email, add the link to your webpage, or share it via social media.
The www.youtube.com/arlingtoncounty site is used primarily for ATV-produced videos.
Beware: YouTube’s “Related Videos” section may contain videos you don’t want associated with your program. Avoid keywords such as “adult” even if used to describe something like “adult reading program.”
How to Post to Granicus
All County departments can use Granicus to host their videos – at no charge. To obtain a username and password for Granicus, contact email@example.com.
Only Windows Media Video (.wmv) files can be uploaded to Granicus. Internal Videos: If you have a video such as an internal message or training program intended for County staff only, use Granicus. Contact AVN to ensure that your video will be uploaded to “Internal Content Only.” These videos can only be seen on the County network and links to them will not work outside the network.
If you rarely upload videos: Email your request to firstname.lastname@example.org. AVN can help convert the file, upload it for you, and provide you with the video’s URL.
If you will be regularly uploading DVDs or videos not in .wmv format, you may need to purchase Movavi, an inexpensive (about $30) software program that converts video to the .wmv format that Granicus requires.
Using Video on a County Webpage
We encourage you to embed County produced videos on your webpages. If your website is published on WordPress, you simply paste the YouTube video URL in your content area and the video will populate when publish or update your page.
